In Europe there are high speed trains which are a great way of getting about. If you are used to the expensive prices and slow service from British Rail then it may make you reluctant to take the train but these are very different. They run efficiently and are therefore very good value for money and they are faster than UK trains. It is a great way to travel because you get to places quickly and you can also relax and watch the world whiz by. Consider them over driving because it will feel much more like a holiday if you do not have to worry about driving on the other side of the road, finding your way around and those foreign drivers!

Using Your Car in Europe

There is a certain feeling of freedom about using your own car when you are driving abroad. Even if you choose to rent a car it is still nice to have a base where you can store things and you can go wherever you like, when you like and not be kept by a time table. The motorways in Europe are very substantial and there are good minor roads as well. If you are renting then you should be able to pick up a car at the airport and then go straight on to your destination. It should not take very long to get used to driving on the other side of the road, just brush up on the basic road signs first though!

If you want to be really comfortable when you are driving around Europe then why not hire a motor home. They can be rented through all of the major rental companies so should be available to pick up at airports. It really makes life fun when you can pull over on the side of the road and make a cup of tea or have a nap. Imagine being able to carry everything you need with you and not having to worry about finding accommodation for the night. A great way to explore a country in a relaxed and civilised manner.

Some countries in Europe require an international driving licence and so it is a good idea to check before you leave. You will not be able to hire a car without one. It is also worth thinking about the fact that you will be driving on the other side of the road. It may be easier for you to hire a car as you will be sitting in the middle of the road rather than on the outside which will be unfamiliar and more difficult to see. It is also worth thinking about learning some of the basic road signs and getting a good European map or a satellite navigation system to make things easier.
